Moving from on-premise Exchange
Mailboxes, calendars and files, moved to Microsoft 365 and set up to work on day one.

Moving from an Exchange server you run in-house to Microsoft 365 means your email leaves your own hardware and moves to Microsoft’s cloud.

What moves

Mailboxes migrate from your on-premise Exchange into Microsoft 365, along with the calendars and contacts in them. Because Exchange and Microsoft 365 share the same lineage, mailbox content maps across cleanly.

What to plan for

Line up administrator access to the Exchange server and your email domain, and decide how to move: smaller organisations often move everyone at once, while larger ones move in batches. See Cutover or staged migration? Once your mailboxes are in Microsoft 365, the old server is no longer needed for email.

Which option and licensing

On-premise Exchange is not a Microsoft 365 account, so you’ll choose Email + setup or Email + full setup. See Which migration option do you need? and Business Basic, Standard or Premium?

Getting started

Have your Exchange admin access, domain details and user list ready (see Before your migration starts), then talk to our team.
